How Much Does Calligraphy Cost?
Calligraphy will generally cost you more than other invitations, because you are going to need to hire someone to create your fabulous invites for you. The average calligrapher will charge you anywhere from $2-$10 per invite!
Of course, if you are going to get the same artist to do all the envelopes, RSVP cards etc, then you can expect to pay more.
Finding The Right Calligrapher
Your nearest stationery shop will usually be able to point you in the right direction as to where you can find the nearest calligrapher, or you should be able to find a calligrapher online.
You will want to keep in mind that most calligraphers will usually take 14 days to complete 100 invitations, and if you are getting married during a popular time of the year, that he or she may have other invitations to complete as well.
Deciding Factors
As with everything you are organizing in your wedding planning, you will want to have a number of things resolved with the potential calligrapher before you confirm, such as:
- Fees.
- Minimum orders.
- List of references.
- Background. A calligrapher should have a degree or
certificate in the arts.
- Ask how long they've been in the business.
- You'll also want to show each calligrapher your invitation and ask for a font sample before you make a decision.
Avoiding Any Errors
So, you have chosen your calligrapher. Now what?
You will more than likely be asked to give your calligrapher a typed address list. You should always check your list twice and make sure that someone else familiar with the names takes a careful look as well. The best format to give the addresses to the calligrapher would be the following format:
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Roberts
123 Back Street
Bobville, MA 12345
Check, And Check Again
Once you receive the finished product from your calligrapher, be sure to check everything over, and then to check again! Remember that your invitations will be the first impression your guests have of your wedding - so they need to be absolutely perfect!
